A few months ago I published a post asking why New Zealand was bothered about methane. I pointed out that most of the information I used in that story came from Peter Foster, a colleague in the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. Recently, Peter recorded two videos for Reality Check Radio (RCR), a New Zealand media channel discussing the same topic with additional material.
In my opinion, these videos are worth watching because I am certain they are applicable globally, and they show just how much factual information is being ignored by “the powers that be!”
Why is that? Why are those powers ignoring it?
There could be several reasons for this, but the most likely reason in this case is that the story projected by Peter and the RCR does not fit the narrative favoured by the IPCC and UNFCCC and by those who project alarm about climate change.
It is easy to ascribe the alarm to conspiracy theories but I think that overstates reality For example, I have yet to be convinced that the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is necessarily the scam claimed by many of those sceptical of the greenhouse gas theory of global warming (latterly called climate change), but I recognise that the work and livelihood of many scientists and allied workers who are involved in the field depend on it for their salaries and research funding to such an extent that they could be considered to have unavoidable conflicts of interest.
