gary-kerkin.ip-ddns.com: the ruminations of an octogenarian
I'm a New Zealander, a retired chemical engineer with experience in
heavy chemicals, the dairy industry in New Zealand, and education. The last 20 years of
my working life I worked as independent consultant mainly in the New
Zealand Dairy industry but also undertaking tasks in Canada and the
United States, Ireland, Denmark, and Australia. I have been involved
with computers and computational systems since 1962 when, as a student,
I was introduced to an IBM 1620 computer. My experience extended from
stand-alone systems like the 1620 to mainframes made by IBM and Control
Data to mini-computers and later micro-computers. The more than 60 years
since that time, then, have been little short of miraculous. I never cease
to be thankful that I have lived through such an amazing time
in history. You can read more about me and my philosophy
on the About page.
This personal website is hosted on a Raspberry Pi 5 computer running a Debian Linux operating system. It uses Python within a Flask framework and is served by a Nginx web server which accesses the page information from a Gunicorn web server gateway interface (WSGI). I am working on these pages which will include content such as essays and technical notes about climate change and other subjects and topics which capture my attention—as my header states, these are the ruminations of an octogenarian. If you are interested I also publish on Substack (garykerkin.substack.com) some of which are also published here.
